POGS 68th Annual Convention

 Its November  once again and Obstetrician Gynecologist  all over the country convene to attend the annual convention at the PICC.

this is done to update members of the latest trends in our field and at the same time relax our minds from the stressful work of our daily lives. just being in the same venue with hundreds of  obstetrician around  is uplifting.

topics were meticulously chosen so it would be applicable to our clinical practice. foreign as well as local speakers gave  interesting lectures.

it is easier to remember the lectures with the advent of iphones as everybody is just taking pictures instead of jotting down notes.

this is also a reunion of sort to our friends who were our co residents during our training days.
it is a great way of catching up now that we're busy the rest of the year.

it feels good to rekindle past relationship and laugh our heart out on the joy and pains of our residency days.

it was a retromagic night as we listen to Louie Reyes of New Minstrels and 8 Tracs while enjoying the foods at the ballroom of Sofitel.

this is something i look forward to. see you again next year!

Our SNH Group participated in the said event.  Its also a bonding time among the hospital staff.
It has been a year since the group started and we're still thriving.

I must say that it feels great to dance and sweat it all out especially with the enthusiatic crowd last night.

Of course...Zin Bernie & Zin Amie were at their outmost energy to lead the crowd.

Kudos to the Liciada Zumba Group for this admirable cause!

Happy at 102!

Though this is a late post Id like to greet Inang Idad a happy happy 102 birthday!

One of Gods greatest gifts is having a long life.

especially if one is surrounded by family, relatives and friends.

Since childhood I always see her  doing a thing she likes best...catching frogs from the field using a string with worms as bait.  

Widowed early she took care of her three daughters who grew up to be hardworking  and diligent like her.

 I admire her for living a simple  and meaningful life.

Her two daughters from US fly home every year to celebrate her birthday while her  youngest daughter stays and attends to her daily needs.

Yesterday I saw her playing cards with her daughter and neighbors. Her mind is young only her body is old.

Its great to be at her age where one understand just what matters in life.

"ALS " in our family

Recent news of the Ice Bucket Challenge prompted me to blog about this topic.

ALS is rarely diagnosed here in our country and I'm glad that there is an awareness of this disease as it could be in the genes of our loved ones.

We lost our beloved "sanse" to this debilitating disease.

Initially she had difficulty of raising her arm and buttoning her clothes.
My husband brought her to UST hospital where she was eventually diagnosed to have such.

From thereon I started reading books about ALS to learn more about the disease  only to realize there's no treatment.
Reading the blogs of patients diagnosed with ALS is  heartbreaking  as you can virtually watch hopelessly the disease deteriorating rapidly... like watching " the fault in our stars".

ALS (Amyotrophic lateral sclerosis)  or Lou Gehrig's Disease is a nerve disorder making the motor nerves die. When they die the muscles lose control leading to muscle tone loss.

 That  makes the body weak  while the sensory function is intact. It is progressive to the point that one has difficulty in walking which can progress to difficulty in swallowing and catastrophically difficulty of breathing.
There is a known hereditary factor in familial ALS. If there is no family history present... in around 90% of cases-cause is unknown.

Life span once diagnosed can be from two to four years. Im thankful that sanse reached 4 years. But it was despairing to see her go and can't do anything about it. During her final days we just gave her parenteral nutrition as she cant swallow anymore.

Raising awareness to this disease would I hope be a step towards helping those who are afflicted and support their family and in searching its cure.

Before... I used to buy artworks to fill an empty wall in our house...

or I see a connection between myself and the artwork.

Now ...with so much in hand..
its quite hard to justify why I  love  to collect artworks.
I simply think I have that "art fever"  and
   afflicted with the so called "art-thritis".

Most of my art pieces were acquired through an online auction like Art for Humanity and
Saturday Art Group. Paintings here were donated by artists and collectors alike for a worthy cause.

Most of the time I was outbidded but nevertheless here are some pieces I have won.
